We all have our unique typing preferences, that’s why we went the extra mile to make the K3 the world's first hot-swappable low profile Optical switch keyboard. We’ve implemented a MX-styled stem and stabilizers, and conducted numerous design iterations of the keyboard structure.
You can easily hot-swap every Optical switch in a few seconds to customize your typing experience on the K3 without soldering. *Hot-swappable feature is available for low profile Keychron Optical switch version only.
MECHANICAL OR OPTICAL?
We’ve overcome different technical challenges to redesign both the low profile Gateron Mechanical switch and low profile Keychron Optical switch in order to elevate the typing experience while enhancing its reliability on the ultra-slim keyboard.
Durable low profile Gateron Mechanical switch with a 50 million keystroke lifespan to provide an unrivaled tactile responsiveness
With the MX-styled stem housing and ultra-low latency, the low profile Keychron Optical switches are crafted for typists or gamers who want to type at lightning speed with a lifespan much greater than industry standards.
*Low profile Keychron Optical switch keyboard is not compatible with any conventional mx style mechanical switch.
0.2ms Ultra-low latency
70 million keystroke lifespan
We’ve spent over a year developing and implementing a MX-styled stem on both the low profile switches for the K3 as well as stabilizers on the big keys like the space bar, left Shift, backspace and Enter key.
It will improve reliability, deliver better typing experiences, and may potentially pave the way for other keycap manufacturers to launch alternative keycaps.
Crafted for productivity, the K3’s 75% layout is a compact version of tenkeyless layout. It allows users access to all the essential multimedia and function keys, but with a smaller footprint.
18 TYPES OF RGB
Comes with various RGB backlight settings, you can adjust the keyboard brightness to sync with your mood. Various backlight patterns are also available on the K3 White Backlight version.

I already own a K2 so I knew what to expect - great build, thoughtful design, economical layout, Mac keys included. I own about 15 keyboards of all different sizes and I've modded quite a few of them, so I know a bit about boards, including lo-pro.
I received the K3 today. Keychron switches, red. Hot swappable. I have to be honest and say that after about 15 minutes of use, I was afraid I might not use another keyboard again. The reasons for this are probably quite subjective, but I'll attempt to explain why this keyboard, for me at least, is probably my favourite of all the boards I own or have tried.
Firstly I'm a coder and I use Mac and Linux. I'm looking for keyboard that is switchable for both platforms, has a small footprint (I prefer 60%, 65% or 75%) and is professional grade. Not only is the K3 all these things, but it feels great to type on with its low travel and stability, its crisp shine-through almost rubberized keycaps, light frame and efficient design. Keychron do a great job of long battery life, so thats to be expected. Will I mod this keyboard? Probably, but right out of the box everything is very pleasing. Paired with my 13 inch Macbook Pro this is a perfect match. And for the price, I'm buying another one to take on the road.
In 2020 I really started to love low-profile mech switches, starting with the Logitech G915 keyboard. However many low-profile boards use Kailh Choc V1 switches (including logitech) which are not compatible with any Cherry-style keycaps. So customization was basically nil in the low-profile world.
Then I came across the K3 kickstarter... not only was it low-profile, but was claiming cherry compatible stems, opto-mechanical option, hot-swappable switches, etc. Could hardly believe it, as no one else was making anything remotely as ambitious.
Joined the campaign right away (back in October). Unit was delivered earlier than promised, in December actually. That is something you don't see often in crowdfunded projects. The keyboard itself is fantastic. Body is simple, compact, and solid. All the wide keys are stabilized properly. Keycap design is excellent- they look and feel great. RGB is highly satisfactory. I don't think the lighting is customizable but there's a bunch of different patterns/effects. Bluetooth works, but I can't speak about about reliability or battery life while disconnected, as I've mainly been using the wired connection. Switches feel great- I've been running the optical orange ones and the weight is perfect for me, but if I tire of them I have an alternate set of optical blues.
tl;dr this thing is pretty fantastic. Not really sure why the price is so low, but I'm not complaining. Hope Keychron bases their future projects on this hardware.
I would like to say that I'm highly satisfied with the Keychron K3 (Optical Blue, RGB).
It was way lighter than I expected. That makes traveling with it very easy. Just a little shocked.
I went from a Cherry MX Brown keyboard to this Keychron Optical Blue keyboard. And wow. I love the blue's click and the low profile's travel distance. It just took my typing and gaming experience to the next level. Combos just feel that much more crisp.
I have long been a fan of mechanical keyboards. As I have aged, I have developed a tremor in my left hand that made the error rate go up when typing on the Apple Magic Keyboard that came with my iMac. I was concerned about the height difference between a standard keyboard and the Apple trackpad, so when the K3 was released I got it with the orange switches. I have been very pleased; the height difference between the low-profile K3 and the trackpad is not a problem, and with the stiffer and longer-travel switches my error rate has gone down to near zero. Great job, Keychron.
The K3 Brown Gateron board i had backed on Kickstarter arrived a couple days ago and has lived up to the expectation and wait. The Mechanical Keys are beautiful to type with and the solid metal base gives the whole board a high quality feel. Furthermore, the keycaps themselves are a lovely matte feeling that suits he minimal 65% layout. Whilst I am not a hardcore mechanical keyboard enthusiast, I can safely say i'll be using this board for a very long time. Really lovely product and perfect for something looking to keep desk space empty whilst still typing on a good quality keyboard (especially for mac users).
