Why Keychron Is Building an HE Mouse Series

Why Keychron Is Building an HE Mouse Series

For most of our history, Keychron has been known for keyboards. Over the past few years, a growing share of that work has gone into Hall effect (HE) keyboards, where magnetic switches let players decide exactly how far a key travels before it registers. The Keychron G HE series is what happens when we bring that same idea to the mouse.

The G6 HE is the first model in the Keychron HE mouse series. This article explains why we decided to build an HE mouse series, who it is for, what the first model demonstrates, and where the series is heading next.

Why we moved from HE keyboards to HE mice

Our HE keyboards taught us something simple: once players can tune when an input registers, they rarely want to go back to a fixed switch. Adjustable actuation and Rapid Trigger changed how people used their keyboards, especially in competitive games where small timing differences decide fights. Yet the other hand on the desk was still clicking a switch whose behavior was set at the factory.

Bringing that control to the mouse was the natural next step, but it was never a matter of copying a keyboard switch. A mouse click has to feel crisp and immediate, and many players value the physical snap of a traditional switch. The G6 HE uses Keychron’s proprietary MagOptic Switch, giving users a choice between Optical Mode and Magnetic Mode in Keychron Launcher. Magnetic Mode enables tunable actuation and Rapid Trigger, while Optical Mode offers a fixed trigger point. Users can switch between these modes to suit their preference while retaining clear physical click feedback.

The move also builds on tools our community already uses. Keychron Launcher, the browser-based configurator many keyboard owners know, handles supported mouse settings including actuation, Rapid Trigger, buttons, DPI, polling rate and macros. This gives keyboard and mouse users a familiar place to personalize their setup. Planned ZGM open-source support for the G6 HE could extend customization further; it is a future firmware initiative, rather than an already released shared keyboard-and-mouse platform.

From HE keyboards to the G HE mouse series: one platform, extended to the other hand.

Who the G HE series is for

The G HE series is built first for competitive players. If you play tactical shooters, arena shooters or any game where you tap, flick and fire in quick succession, an adjustable actuation point and Rapid Trigger give you direct control over how the button responds, instead of accepting whatever behavior a switch came with.

It is also built for players who like to tune their gear. The G6 HE offers a 12-step adjustable actuation point within 0.65 mm (± 0.07 mm) of total click travel, Rapid Trigger support, 12-step lift-off distance adjustment, Motion Sync and Angle Snap. Those settings live in a web app rather than a heavy driver, and they are saved to the mouse itself.

Finally, it is for people who use the same desk for play and for work, and who would rather own one excellent Keychron gaming mouse than juggle two compromises. We come back to that idea below.

What the G6 HE demonstrates about the series

The G6 HE is the first model in the Keychron HE mouse series. Its role is to show that adjustable input can work in a familiar gaming mouse: users can choose optical or magnetic triggering, tune the click response, and keep their settings on the device. These choices make the series relevant to different clicking habits without requiring every player to use the same configuration.

Its two battery versions illustrate another part of that approach. The swappable-battery version prioritizes quick battery replacement, while the built-in-battery version offers a simpler setup. Both retain the core MagOptic experience, showing how a common input design can accommodate different everyday priorities. See the G6 HE product page for full specifications.

Built for gaming, ready for the workday

Keychron’s community has always included as many programmers, writers and designers as gamers, and many of them use one desk for everything. We designed the G HE series with that reality in mind.

A mouse used for both play and work needs more than a sensitive switch. It needs to fit the way people move between devices and tasks. For the series, the goal is to make click customization useful across that daily routine, alongside comfort and straightforward configuration. Available connections and controls depend on the model.

Because Keychron Launcher runs in Chrome, Edge or Opera on Windows, macOS and Linux, you can adjust settings on a work machine without installing anything. Once settings are saved for the mouse, they travel with it to the next device. Tuning a setup for games and then taking the same mouse to the office does not require a second mouse or a reinstall.

What We Want the HE Mouse Series to Offer

People do not all click the same way. Some rest their fingers lightly on the buttons; others press more firmly. Some enjoy experimenting with sensitivity, while others want to find a comfortable setting and leave it alone. Building an HE mouse series gives us a way to address that range of preferences over time.

Our aim is to make click response a useful part of choosing and personalizing a mouse. Shape, weight and grip comfort still matter. Adjustable input adds another consideration: whether the button responds at the point that feels right under your fingers. A mouse should bring these qualities together in a way that suits the person using it.

The configuration experience matters just as much. Users should be able to understand what an adjustment changes, try it in their usual routine, and keep the settings that work for them. For people already familiar with our HE keyboards, this carries the same idea across the desk: more control over how a physical press becomes an input.

The G6 HE is our first example of that approach. The purpose of the wider series is to make room for different preferences while keeping that control understandable and practical.

The bottom line

We started building HE mice for the same reason we started building HE keyboards: players deserve control over how their inputs behave. The Keychron HE mouse series brings that control to the mouse, with a click that still feels like a click and a design that works as hard at your desk during the day as it does in a match at night.
