I've had my K4 for a while now and I still really love it as a keyboard. A few months after I bought it, the 'A' key cap cracked along the surface. I emailed Keychron about it, and they were very responsive and I got two replacement A keys at no charge and quite quickly. Looks great. Works great. Very convenient. If you're thinking about buying one, you won't regret it. (I recommend brown switches.)
Everything is great but can’t get the Bluetooth to work yet after following instructions. Other than that is exactly what I wanted. Pbt key caps would be nice since finding some to fit this layout is difficult.
First Mechanical KB for me and man I love it! It has BT5.1 supports mac/ win : android/Ios; wired/ wireless mode & hotswappable switches. It has all the options for 99USD and from time to time there are cupons available through out the internet for this item . you can close your eyes and just buy this keyboard.
I bought it thinking abt building a new PC during Christmas but endded up getting a M1 mac instead what do you know it has all the keys for it and keyboard shortcuts are programmed inn already I am in love with this keyboard i am very happy with this purchase. I already gifted one to some one as well .
I keep the RGB on and the keyboard lastes atleast 6 to 7 days before it turned off and I had to recharge it. Daily usage is arnd 6 hrs
I connect it to my Mac and my Ipad simoultaneously and the transition from one device to other is very fast so it doesnot slow me down while working.
waking up from Auto sleep mode takes abt 5 seconds for the keyboard to reconnect to the device. Not a big Issue but I have disabled it.
I contacted the Customer services to ask abt an extra set of keycaps for this and they replied to me very very fast, it was very nice customer service.
* It is a little bit difficult to get keycaps for this, you really have to search hard. the only place i found a keycap set for this is https://www.maxkeyboard.com/keychron-k4-custom-black-pudding-keycap-set.html
Hope Keychron makes a replacement keycap set ( coz finding an exact Backlit keycap set for this keyboard is a little difficult)
AND I wish that they give an option for PBT switches (please Keychron make a PBT set for this I would really like to keep this for a long time.)
NOT a paid review in any way. I'm a full time student and do writing online for work and some other content creation.
I bought the first version of the 10-key K4, aluminum frame with the optical Gateron Browns. I spent ages looking for a keyboard in this layout as I use the num pad on a regular basis but the 100% keyboards take up way too much space and the other 10-key mechanical boards are either wired or require a dongle. I use a laptop primarily with a monitor at home and having a dongle permanently sticking out the side was no go. I have Windows and Mac devices, Windows primarily, and being able to switch back and forth with the keys is fantastic. I only switch it between Mac and Windows mode when I'm going to using the Mac more intensively. The only things, and I do mean ONLY, I didn't like was the position of the Home, End, and Del keys, and not having an indication for Caps Lock ( I suppose num-lock too, but its essentially a non-issue). They fixed the Key config exactly how I would have liked it and added the Caps Lock light.
If I remember to turn the keyboard off when I'm not using the computer the battery has lasted around the two week mark without needing a charge, I also had the RGB off as I wanted to see how long it would go. The first version might have a different battery to version 2, but the battery life is awesome regardless. It also seems charges quite quickly. If I don't turn it off and just let it go into sleep mode even with the RGB on I can get around a week out of it. I do a lot of typing and office type work on it with a moderate to light amount of gaming, 80:20 or 90:10.
My main keyboard before this was a 100% Das with Cherry Blues. I like the feedback of the Chery Blues and initially liked the noise they made but after a while the noise started to bother me, especially if I was typing during an online meeting. For my taste the Gateron Optical browns are a perfect balance of both tactile and audible feedback. I think I might be able to type slightly faster on the Blues, but I enjoy using the K4 FAR FAR FAR more.
If/when I ever need another keyboard, its going to be another one of these. I have yet to find anybody who has tried it and not said it was either their favorite keyboard or very close to it.
