Keychron Nape Pro Wireless Trackball Mouse

I guess I had very different expectations for this product. It feels like a cheap plastic toy and isn't intuitive to use at all. Having to deal with the launcher to try to configure everything is confusing, and still didn't help it feel like a $90 product.

I'd be fine if this was a $20 product as that's what it feels like, but $90 is a joke.

I’ve really enjoyed this product over the past month and I think comparing it to the Apple Watch is a great analogy. By no means is this going to replace my mouse but it provides small conveniences in a flexible situations. For gaming it was a fantastic edition that performed like a joystick. For work it’s a flexible tool that helps me keep both hands on the keyboard. There is a small transition that took me about 3 days but it’s absolutely staying on the desk.

With my high rating, I still want to provide my whole experience. My only grievances are my scroll wheel has a single spot of resistance that sometimes restricts just enough to cause friction to slide on the desk pad and I find the trackball can be hard to clean, so every now and then I’ll have a bump in one spot on my trackball that will annoy me since it slightly jumps.

What I don’t mind, but would love to see is a more tactile, clicky four main buttons around the wheel and a USB C 2.4 dongle

Still a great product I will continue to use

Overall, I really like the Nape Pro. The software is solid, and I hope Keychron continues to expand its functionality and keep it regularly updated. At first glance, the device itself is very, very good.

I can even overlook the fact that the trackball itself doesn’t feel quite as smooth or refined as the one on the MX Ergo.

But the scroll ring completely ruins the experience for me.

Once you notice it, it’s hard to think about anything else. It’s almost impossible to rotate the ring smoothly with one finger. The friction is so high that trying to scroll often moves the entire device across the desk. On top of that, the ring occasionally catches or gets stuck at seemingly random points while rotating.

It’s especially frustrating because everything else about the Nape Pro has left such a positive impression. I really wanted to love this device, but the scroll ring makes it genuinely unpleasant to use.

I’m very frustrated and disappointed, especially considering how good the rest of the product seems to be.

My first impression of the Nape Pro was not too good. It felt flimsy, so not the build quality I expected from Keychron. As well, it just did not sit right with me, and the way I use a mouse, I though. Because, after some adjustment of the buttons and using the Nape Pro for a few days I got addicted. I am now using the Nape Pro for maybe 90-95% of all my mouse actions. Then, I have my vertical mouse in those cases I need more fine grained control.

For a first generation product launch I am very pleased. If an improved solid metal version is coming, with a better scroll wheel, I will definitively get that as well. I really hope Keychron keeps developing this product, and potentially look into other variations as well. Different balls, adjustable friction for the ball and scroll wheel, pick your own colours, and build materials, etc.

Thanks, Keychron!

I don't understand all the gripes below. This thing works for my use case since I have a zero g-desk and it mounts to my desk and perfectly under my keyboard. It works perfectly, is small form factor, is completely customizeable with the launcher and can use chrome, chromium, or brave to do so which is easy. I can't wait to buy a second one.
